Today we are excited to announce that the MediaSilo iPhone app is available from the App Store. Built from the ground up, the app is made for video pros on the go who need to view files offline on a plane, make comments anywhere, and sync back up when a network is available.
We took our time to get this right. Earlier this summer our team embarked on this project and weighed the different options: develop an iPhone "friendly" app based on HTML and browser technology, or build a native experience that would allow for critical features like offline mode. In the end, I think we made the right decision by building an app that doesn't make sacrifices in any way.
Mobile is increasingly important for video professionals. It's not just about viewing video on mobile devices, but about connecting to your online media library on your terms. Apple has created a truly remarkable mobile platform as there is hardly a meeting I attend these days without iPads. For MediaSilo, mobile is an important direction and you will hear a lot more from us in coming weeks and months.
One of my favorite features that is little talked about but of utmost importance is AirPlay. By selecting an output device in the app, it's possible to play back any media file on the big screen. Our iPhone app is built with that in mind. Download your list of files for the next big review session or presentation and show them on the screen - all from your iPhone and a $99 AppleTV. There is something said for knowing that you can present your media even if you can't connect to the Internet.
Our commitment to mobile is strong and we have had a tremendous amount of help from our users in building our app. Our initial release focuses on easy access to your library, search, navigation between projects and subfolders, offline viewing, instant, secure sharing via QuickLinks, and commenting. We worked hard to wrap the application in a user experience that media creators and reviewers alike will appreciate.
We know there is more work to be done and we can't wait to hear what you think.
