We’re excited to announce a major upgrade to MediaSilo lauching this Thursday, April 24th. Fresh off the NAB show floor and straight onto your screen, MediaSilo comes with a dozen new features and major workflow improvements. No worries, the upgrade will be seamless. MediaSilo pricing hasn’t changed. This upgrade is free of charge to all existing MediaSilo subscribers. See what’s new in MediaSilo after the jump.
- Email Notifications
Automatic email notifications are sent when new files are uploaded, new annotations have been added, or approval is requested. Notification preferences make receiving emails optional. - New Broadcast Plugin with flexible lineups
One of the most significant upgrades in this release affects MediaSilo’s web broadcast capabilities. Users can now create reusable lineups that contain lists of video clips. Lineups can be added to channels, enabling a channel to contain multiple content categories (lineups). Existing channels are not affected, however, MediaSilo users currently using channels should be aware that new embed code should be placed on web pages to ensure forward compatibility. - New player shells
New player shells have been added each with a distinct look and feel. More players will be added in May. - Improved Approval workflow
An approval queue has been added to the Workspace window. Files awaiting approval now show up in the main view, making it easier to batch-process approvals. Other enhancements have been made to the approval functionality such as the integration of email notifications. - UI improvements
Improved access to Account Administration, Support, and Account Statistics, now located in the upper right hand corner of the screen. - FLV File Upload
Upload Sorenson or VP6 encoded files to eliminate server side transcoding and keep complete control over quality settings. - Improved Thumbnail generation
MediaSilo 1.5 fixes a bug that sometimes created color distortion and aspect ratio inconsistencies when uploading new files. - Better Encoding Quality
Files uploaded to MediaSilo are now transcoded with higher quality settings: 2Pass CBR, 700kbit/s with no change in aspect ratio or size of the file. - Increased file format compatibility
MediaSilo now supports AVI, WMV, ASF, MPEG, MOV, and FLV wrappers with all popular codecs. - QuickLink to video clips
QuickLink generates a small URL according to the TinyURL concept. The URL can be emailed or posted in project management software such as Basecamp for one-click access to clips within MediaSilo. Users are taken to the login screen from where they are directly taken to the video clip. - New support area with workflow screencasts
As part of our ongoing effort to create a powerful video management platform that fits a variety of workflows, we have launched a new blog and resource area at http://blog.mediasilo.com that features industry experts explaining workflow scenarios in their respective fields. Also new is a support messageboard where questions can be posted that are answered by other users as well as MediaSilo support staff. - Right-click functionality throughout the application
Save some mouse mileage by using right-click everywhere in MediaSilo. Add users, workspaces, linups, or channels – all by clicking the right mouse button.

Great post. Very informative.
Hi Mediasilo…
How do I look at the channel that serves my website and change the channel lineup? I’m trying to delete a few videos.
Thanks,
Dean B.
@Dean Butler: From your MediaSilo account (yourAccountName.mediasilo.com), look for “Channels” in the left-hand sidebar. It’s a collapsable menu so click on it to expand it if its not already. You should se a list of your channels underneath.
However, which videos that appear in your channel are determined by Lineups, which can be found directly below the channel listings. You can add a video to by dragging a clip or clips from a workspace into the lineup, or delete a video by dragging the clip from the lineup into the trash.
Good luck!
