The Real Story Behind the “Plugged In” Podcast

June 21st, 2008

Now that the actual podcast is up and I’m safe, the true story can come out.

Apparently, a guy who used to work at the Palo Alto, CA Apple store and claimed to have upgraded the memory on Steve Jobs’ MacBook Pro was supposed to be the main guest on this edition of “Plugged In.” From what I understand, he had to back out because of a dental appointment. Desperate for a guest, hosts Keith and Alan began driving around California in search of a quick replacement.

Before I knew it I was bound and gagged in the back of a car, completely oblivious. I managed to wiggle a hand free and snap a quick pic with the iPhone so the authorities would be able to track them down. I was placed in a darkened room and forced to do a phone interview. A few hours later I woke up along the freeway and ambled home.

All in all, a good time. Hope they have us back.

Showcase: Endemol Casting with MediaSilo

June 19th, 2008

When Endemol’s Mike Glazer was given the task to look for a new show host for ABC’s upcoming show “Wipeout”, they turned to MediaSilo. Originally budgeted at 10 weeks, Mikey completed the casting process in half the time with a fraction of staff he used to need. More importantly, communication internally and externally was a breeze. Executives, producers, even casting talent were able to log on, view clips and provide immediate feedback. Listen to Mikey’s story.

Showcase: Peak Moore

June 18th, 2008

As a small production company, Dean Butler at Peak Moore Enterprises knows the reality of waiting for client feedback all too well. Listen to him explain how MediaSilo freed him from FedEx drop-off deadlines and made his operation run just a tad more smoothly.

The $5 Gas Equation

June 18th, 2008

A production manager I know spent $60 to fill up his wife’s Mini Cooper! All the more reason to justify MediaSilo to clients or higher-ups. We all know how much it sucks to dub DVD’s for client review. It sucks even more to drive them around town or worse… send them FedEx or UPS.

To send a DVD to that agency client in San Francisco from your production house in LA is $26.05. Then there’s the time you, or one of your people spend dubbing the thing, the coin for the CD itself and that crappy purple jewel case. You can pay the gas to drive to the Fed Ex drop box or the extra charge for pickup and when it’s done you’re out 30 bucks. All for one DVD the client says she’ll watch at home, then leaves behind at the office and you get backed up on projects for another two days!

$29 with MediaSilo gets you a workspace with client notification, approval, ratings, unlimited single player embed codes, an embed channel, unlimited lineups, 1GB storage, 1 GB bandwidth, plus killer workflow and support. Oh, and it’s good for the whole month. You want to gas up the FedEx truck or the wife’s Mini? Opt for domestic tranquility and sign up.

MediaSilo on ToolFarm’s “Plugged In” Podcast

June 17th, 2008

Heads up Siloheads! We’re getting play on ToolFarm’s upcoming “Plugged In” podcast. Odds are you already know about ToolFarm. It’s a great resource for plugins, software and tips on the production workflow (or as I found out this week, a hook-up for the AE graphic that makes all the difference in a project.)

Keith Larsen and Alan Spaulding know their stuff. We talked MediaSilo workflow for electronic press kits, CDN and even crappy FM radio deejays (I was one, once.) Be looking for MS on PI, and if you get a chance, listen to their NAB show, if you haven’t already.
